life is hard. soften your focus.

The ripples of autumn on a lake’s surface reminds us that life is inherently uncertain and ambiguous.

Not everything has to be sharply defined, cut and dry, or black and white for it to carry any meaning.

In the desire to sharply define everything, we miss the potential for greater awareness and understanding.

Nature drops these hints and reminders for us when we become intentional about noticing.

The edges between opposing beliefs and practices are inherently less defined than we realize.

There is beauty and promise in the uncertainty of the in-between spaces.

Joe Callender

Hello! I'm Joe from New Jersey.

My imagery challenges the conventions, norms, and constraints we place on our belief systems and decision-making through a personal dedication to exploring liminality through the concept of the Beginner’s Mindset.

An expert mind sees few possibilities; the Beginner’s Mindset remains open to many possibilities.

My approach and imagery celebrates the role of liminality, not only as the primary means for creating contemplative or visually arresting art but also as a deeper lesson about the role of liminality for change and transformation.
