liminal thoughts
Practicing liminality is like finding the opportunities to meditate throughout your day
The simplest way to think about liminality in the day-to-day is to choose to take the approach that takes a little more time and effort than the usual approaches
I’m reflecting on something about me that I just realized that has been an indicator of my preference for more liminality in practice. I’ve always preferred someone email me vs call me because I like to have the chance to sit with the message for a bit before responding to it. Taking time to think through a response is a simply example of practicing liminality.
My sense is that we think of change as a “state of being or experience” that happens to us (external force) vs. thinking of change as a set of traits and skills necessary for more effectively navigating and effecting genuine change in one’s life or work (intrinsic desire and ability.)
Successfully performing change is very much a combination of traits and skills just like learning to write or create art.
We have to wonder why we are not taught how to pursue change from a fundamental perspective and approach.
Liminality is an act of resistance.
The system wants you unconscious and unthinking in your approach so that you unwittingly perform more of what the system needs to survive.
Liminality is about becoming more conscious and aware of the things you are tuning into and then decisions you are making.
