reaching our “fullest”potential
DATE OF ENTRY: 3-1-25
Saw the idea of “reaching our fullest potential” mentioned and it immediately became a burning idea for some “journaling in public.”
Here are my thoughts on finding or achieving our “fullest” potential.
We can never know this.. all we can do is keep working toward it.
We can think we have reached it because we are in a role that pays us well and brings us accolades and a comfortable lifestyle.
But that is just the amount of potential in that very linear and isolated segment of a much bigger picture and universe. We likely have more than that within us.
Who knows what greater potential lies beyond that segment if we were to keep discovering?
We typically don’t do this though because the system teaches us to settle. We usually head down a path from early in adulthood and then if it’s paying off, we stick to that path.
Plus what is “fullest potential” anyway? In a capitalist system it usually it has a lot to do with a bunch of external factors and elements.
We are not taught or trained to seek it internally as a priority so how much do we really understand about our potential as a human being?
For me “fullest potential” is simply one of the really “coachy” things to talk about within a very superficial and mostly externally oriented paradigm and model. It’s more marketing than meaning.
We can’t know what our fullest potential is in an overwhelmingly externally oriented system and we are unlikely to ever find it or achieve it for the same reasons.
So it becomes about a constant effort of extending our potential throughout life, with no mind to whether it’s our “fullest” expression or not, again because we can’t know this.
Learning (not simply knowledge acquisition) becomes a key trait and activity for extending one’s potential over time.
